Debra Warner, M.S., L.M.F.T. Education & Professional Background

I graduated from California Lutheran University, and earned a Bachelors Degree in Psychology with an Emphasis in Child and Family Development and a Minor in Gender Studies, followed by a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology with an Emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy. While training in the Community Parent and Child Counseling Center at California Lutheran University, I gained experience in domestic violence while working with clients under the Verizon Domestic Violence grant. I was also certified by Valley Trauma Center as a Sexual Assault Counselor and In-Home Family Therapist for the Department of Children and Family Services. I have presented to general audiences speaking on the topics of anxiety and depression, and designed and implemented support groups for treatment of anxiety.

I love working with couples to help them build relationships based on deeper levels of trust and intimacy, while increasing their abilities to communicate effectively and resolve conflict.  As a Level I and II trained Gottman Marriage Therapist, Emotion Focus Couple Therapist and Prepare Enrich Facilitator, I have gained experience working in the areas of pre-marital therapy, couples therapy, infidelity, and divorce recovery.

I have been a trauma therapy specialist since 2011.  I am a Certified EMDR Psychotherapist and member of EMDRIA (EMDR International Association), using EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) to effectively treat the most deeply embedded and long-held traumatic memories.  The treatment of relational trauma and neglect using EMDR can help clients who have experienced past trauma, and have not resolved the symptoms through previous counseling.

My therapeutic approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help my clients effectively address their personal life challenges, while integrating complimentary techniques to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to meet the needs of each client. With compassion and understanding, we work together to help build on strengths and attain the personal growth that each couple or individual are committed to accomplishing.
